Riot Games has once again partnered with FSL to host the second year of the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) Game Changers in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, which features four stages of competition and a US$60,000 total prize pool.
VCT Game Changers will be held alongside the main VCT competitive season and will be "a pro player circuit that reflects the diversity and global nature of the VALORANT community and player talent seen in the region," Riot said in a press release.
"VCT Game Changers is a competitive series that aims to create new opportunities and exposure for women and other marginalized genders within the VALORANT esports ecosystem," added the VALORANT developer.
The series is open to both individuals and teams from the APAC region with the exception of South Korea, China, and Japan, which will have their respective leagues.
VCT Game Changers APAC will be held from February to October and will be comprised of the following stages: VCT Game Changers APAC Opens, VCT Game Changers APAC Open Overtime, VCT Game Changers APAC Last Chance, and VCT Game Changers APAC Elite.
The VCT Game Changers APAC Opens is a series of four open tournaments from February to June, with teams having the chance to win US$5,000 in each event. Teams will also be earning points for their placement in the Opens, with the Top 3 teams at the conclusion of this stage qualifying for VCT Game Changers APAC Elite.
The eight teams in 4th to 11th place in the VCT Game Changers APAC leaderboard at the conclusion of the Opens will qualify for VCT Game Changers APAC Open Overtime, which will be held from late June to early July. The event will follow a double-elimination format, with the Top 3 teams qualifying for the VCT Game Changers APAC Elite.
Up next in mid-August will be VCT Game Changers APAC Last Chance, which will be the final opportunity for teams in the circuit to qualify for VCT Game Changers APAC Elite.
As many as 64 teams will fight through a series of double-elimination brackets, with the last two teams standing earning the final spots in VCT Game Changers APAC Elite as well as a US$5,000 prize.
Finally, VCT Game Changers APAC Elite will serve as the grand final stage of the 2022 VCT Game Changers APAC series and will be held in early October. The eight qualified teams will compete over two weekends for their cut of the US$35,000 prize pool, with potential spots in Riot's global Game Changers tournament later in the year also at stake.
The developer is set to reveal more details about the global Game Changers tournament closer to its date.
Last year's VCT Game Changers series for Southeast Asia was dominated by Indonesian powerhouse Alter Ego Celestè, who made a clean sweep of the Opens and had a near-perfect run at VCT Game Changers SEA FSL Elite.
Teams and individuals interested in participating in the 2022 VCT Game Changers APAC series can register on the official VALORANT website, with registration links to be made available soon. Rules and guidelines for the circuit can also be seen here.
