Rishi Sunak’s Election Speech Drowned Out By Pouring British Rain & Protester Blasting D:Ream’s ‘Things Can Only Get Better’

Farcical scenes in Britain, where Rishi Sunak’s speech announcing a July 4 election was drowned out by rain and a protester blasting D:Ream hit Things Can Only Get Better.

As the prime minister delivered his address to the nation, he was getting visibly drenched by a spring shower, while he had to fight to be heard over protests outside Downing Street.

A member of the public was playing Things Can Only Get Better, a famous Tony Blair campaign song and likely reference to the fact that there could be a change of government in the UK after 14 years of Conservative rule. Labour is around 20 points ahead in the polls.

“Things can only get wetter,” joked Jessica Elgot, The Guardian’s deputy political editor.

Nigel Farage, the GB News presenter and Donald Trump ally, put it like this: “Rishi Sunak and his speech notes are both soaking wet outside No 10. This is the most farcical General Election launch in history.”

Steve Bray, an indefatigable protester who regularly torments politicians in Westminster, claimed credit for the music that played during Sunak’s speech.
