River in Downtown Gatlinburg Rages as Heavy Rainfall Hits the South

Heavy rain and strong winds swept across eastern Tennessee on Wednesday night, prompting road closures and flood warnings in Gatlinburg on the morning of February 6, local authorities said.

Many eastern Tennessee schools were closed on Thursday due to the rain, media reported, and officials were encouraging people to use caution when driving on flooded roads.

The rain is forecast to taper off by Friday morning, although officials have said flood warnings might continue into the weekend.
