Robert De Niro became emotional while discussing his infant daughter in an interview.
De Niro told AARP that he wanted "to be around" as long as he could to enjoy fatherhood.
The actor welcomed his seventh child, Gia Virginia, with his girlfriend Tiffany Chen last year.
Robert De Niro became emotional while discussing his 10-month-old daughter, Gia Virginia, in an interview with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
The actor announced last year that he had become a father for the seventh time at 79, making him one of Hollywood's oldest dads.
"I'm an 80-year-old dad and it's great," De Niro, now 80, said. "Everything that I'm consumed with or worried about or this and that just goes away when I look at her."
The Academy Award-winning actor then seemed to choke up slightly.
Taking a moment to compose himself, he continued: "That in itself is wondrous."
The veteran actor, who received his ninth Oscar nomination for his supporting role in Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon," said that his daughter "has a very sweet kind of way of looking at you and just taking you in."
"My other daughter, Helen, had that too," De Niro continued. "So, I don't know where it's gonna go with her later on — when she gets older. But she's thinking and she's observing everything and watching."
"It's really interesting," he added. "I want to be around for as long as I can, to enjoy it. Enjoy her."
De Niro announced Gia Virginia's birth while promoting the film "About My Father" on Entertainment Tonight Canada.
When asked about his six children, the actor said: "Seven, actually. I just had a baby."
In an interview with The Guardian in October, the "Taxi Driver" star opened up about raising his infant daughter, saying: "I don't do the heavy lifting. I'm there, I support my girlfriend. But she does the work. And we have help, which is so important."
