Roof canopy collapses at New Delhi airport killing one and injuring six in heavy rain

One person has been killed and six more injured after part of a roof canopy at an airport in India collapsed in heavy rain.

All flight departures from Terminal 1 at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were temporarily suspended as rescuers cleared the debris to rescue anyone trapped there, the airport authority said.

The collapse occurred outside the terminal, which is used for domestic operations at the capital’s main airport, at around 5am local time on Friday 28 June.

In addition to the roof, some support beams also collapsed, damaging cars in the pickup and drop-off area at the terminal.
