Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (RTD) has detected postings on several social media platforms and instant messaging service channels, including Facebook and Telegram, that offer fake driving licences.

In a statement to the media earlier today, the RTD said the syndicates had adopted several modus operandi to advertise their services, which include driving licences that could be obtained without sitting for examinations, that could be processed quickly, were cheap to obtain, and would not be easily detected by the authorities. “Driving licences are issued based on the regulations and training procedures that have been set. In this case, RTD would like to remind everyone to be careful of scams that offer illegal driving licences,” read the statement. “The RTD is working with the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission to detect the account owners of those behind such scams on social media.” Operating a motor vehicle without a valid and legal driving or riding licence is an offence under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act. RTD also seeks the cooperation from the public to provide information, or lodge a report if they have been approached by syndicates that offer cheap, and easy-to-get driving licences that do not follow the stipulated procedures.
