Ryan Gosling has been replaced as the lead in the Wolf Man remake.

It was reported back in 2020 that the 'I'm Just Ken' hitmaker and actor had signed on to appear as a new version of the classic horror monster in a film with a Nightcrawler vibe. Gosling was to headline the remake as an anchorman who becomes a creature of the night.

But now, The Hollywood Reporter has stated that Gosling has left the project as an actor, although he'll still have an executive producer credit.

Poor Things and Sanctuary actor Christopher Abbott has stepped in to star in the lead role.

The departure is part of a raft of changes for the film, which is now set to be about a family being tormented by a deadly predator (presumably some sort of werewolf).

Leigh Whannel of The Invisible Man fame and for writing many other horrors was always involved with the project, but now he's directing and serving as writer and executive producer. That means that The Place Beyond the Pines director Derek Cianfrance is out.

It also looks like the film is now going by the name Wolf Man rather than The Wolfman.

Rather than these changes pushing the film back, it looks like they mean that things are going full steam ahead, with a release date pencilled in for October 25 next year.

Meanwhile, Gosling recently said that he doesn't know anything about plans for any potential Barbie sequel, though he'd love to play some very specific Kens in a spin-off film.

Barbie is available to rent for £4.99 or buy in the UK from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and more. If you prefer a physical copy, you can buy Barbie on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD.
