Netflix's Monster season 2 has lined up who will be playing Erik and Lyle Menendez.

Following last year's Dahmer, which chronicled the late Jeffrey Dahmer's murder spree through Milwaukee, creator Ryan Murphy's anthology series will return to screens with a look at the Menendez brothers.

Erik and Lyle were found guilty of killing their parents, José and Mary Louise 'Kitty' Menéndez, in 1996.

Deadline reports that Power Book II: Ghost star Cooper Koch is playing Erik, while General Hospital's Nicholas Alexander Chavez will portray Lyle.

The murders happened in 1989, when José and Mary were fatally shot. The first trial in 1993 ended in a hung jury, but the brothers were convicted during the second trial.

Netflix previously shared a teaser for the upcoming season, which is titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

The first season of the anthology series centred on Dahmer was hugely popular, with over 1 billion hours viewed in the first 60 days. However, it was also at the centre of a number of controversies.

Many of the victim's families took issue with the series at the time.

Back in December, Murphy responded after a backlash over the show being added to Netflix's LGBTQ+ category.

"I think that it got the tag, one, because of my involvement," he told Variety at the time. "I'm a gay man, so most of my stories deal with some sort of LGBTQ thing and I do that selfishly.

"When I was growing up, I had nothing [to look to]. My mission statement has been to talk about those stories and those characters and unearth buried history."
