Ryan Phillippe Called Reese Witherspoon "Hot" in a Very '90s Throwback Photo

They still look the same.

Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon's relationship has been over for nearly two decades, but that doesn't mean he's not willing to show her a little bit of love on social media.

On May 27, the actor appeared to be dabbling in nostalgia and took to his Instagram Story to share a throwback photo of him with Witherspoon at the 2001 premiere of Legally Blonde in Southampton, New York. For the event, the couple matched in stripes—Witherspoon in a fitted black-and-white striped dress and Phillippe in a white and baby blue striped V-neck sleeveless shirt, navy blue pants, and black aviator sunglasses.

"We were hot and drenched in late '90s angst @reesewitherspoon (such a cooler time than today)," he captioned the snapshot on his Story.

Witherspoon and Phillippe met at her 21st birthday party in 1997 and then quietly started dating before starring opposite each other in Cruel Intentions. By June 1999, the pair officially tied the knot and later welcomed their first child, Ava Phillippe, into the world. Three years later, their son, Deacon Phillippe, was born, and by 2008, the couple divorced.

The Cruel Intentions stars still maintain a great relationship, despite their split. “We did a good job as co-parents, and I knew that we would even back when we were very young," he told The Guardian in 2022. "We met at her 21st birthday party, and then she was with child, but—knowing how volatile Hollywood relationships can be—I knew that even if we didn’t make it, she would be a great person to raise kids with. I’ve never said a bad word about her or our past, and I never would. I respect and admire her, and we made some pretty great and beautiful kids."
