Ryan Reynolds is launching “the War of the Popcorn Buckets.”

The producer-star of Deadpool’s upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe debut Deadpool & Wolverine teased a new product for the movie’s fans: a rival of AMC Theatres' viral Dune: Part Two sandworm popcorn bucket.

“Years from now they will look back at 2024 as the year the War of the Popcorn Buckets began. #history #DeadpoolAndWolverine ❤️💛,” wrote Reynolds, 47, in posts to his social media and YouTube.

The video accompanying his post featured footage, set to dramatic music, showing a bucket made to resemble the helmeted head of X-Men character Wolverine — mouth agape, so fans might eat popcorn out of his maw.

The limited-edition Dune: Part Two promo item released earlier this year was a receptacle made out of a tin with a detachable lid that resembles the giant, toothy sandworms of the desert planet Arrakis. It was enough of a viral sensation to cause cast members Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh and Austin Butler to address it face-to-face on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in February.

Reynolds is reprising the role of foul-mouthed Deadpool in the upcoming Shawn Levy-directed Disney movie that brings Hugh Jackman, 55, back to the big screen as Wolverine after previously retiring the character.

The Deadpool & Wolverine filmmaking team teased their plan to release a popcorn bucket while at CinemaCon 2024 in Las Vegas in April.

“We’ve asked Deadpool to design” the item, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told the crowd there. Cheekily referencing the Dune bucket, he added, “There are some movies that inadvertently make crude and rude popcorn buckets, and then there are popcorn buckets designed by Deadpool.”

Levy, 55, jokingly clarified to PEOPLE at the time that it was the character Deadpool, rather than Reynolds, who is responsible for such outlandish — and, for the first time in distributor Disney’s history, R-rated — moments on and off screen in the superhero franchise.

He and Reynolds “do occasionally use third person” when discussing Deadpool, said Levy. “Because in the suit, in the mask, on screen, it becomes something else. It becomes, frankly for me, something bigger and more iconic.”

Deadpool & Wolverine is in theaters July 26. Don’t miss PEOPLE’s new collectible side-by-side covers featuring Reynolds and Jackman, on newsstands Friday.
