It was recently revealed that Japanese actress Ryoko Shinohara is the person behind the alias Sino R Fine (read as shee-noh-roo-fee-neh), who sang the theme song Crazy For You for the Netflix drama Fishbowl Wives.

Shinohara starred in Fishbowl Wives as Sakura Hiraga, one of the six unfaithful wives. Having been abused physically and emotionally by her husband, Sakura seeks refuge under the warmth and care of a goldfish otaku Haruto Toyota (Takanori Iwata).

The music video of Crazy For You, which was released last Friday (18 February), marks Shinohara’s first song in 19 years. This is also the first time she has sung the theme song of a drama she acted in.

When Shinohara first started out in the entertainment industry, she was originally a singer, part of the Tokyo Performance Doll, a J-pop idol girl group formed in 1990. She later released her breakthrough single with producer Tetsuya Komuro in 1994, before leaving the group in September of the same year and focusing on her career as an actress.

“It's been about 20 years since I last worked as a singer. I’m delighted to be able to produce music after so long and to sing again,” said Shinohara, whose last song was released in 2003.

While producing the song, she went with the mindset that there must be something she could express precisely because she acted in Fishbowl Wives. “I recorded the song with the same feelings as my role in the drama. Regardless of your gender or age, I hope that anyone who hears this song will feel something,” she said.

Sino R Fine comes from the musical term “sin al fine” which means “until the end,” implying that Shinohara is only singing for the drama. It is unclear whether she will be releasing more songs in the future.
