An off-duty Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular serviceman was found dead in his bunk at Nee Soon Camp on Saturday (28 July).

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence (Mindef), the serviceman – who was from the SAF Medical Training Institute – was found hanging from a rope in his bunk.

The Singapore Police Force and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were activated by the unit and SCDF paramedics pronounced the serviceman dead at the scene at 3.06pm.

Mindef and the SAF have extended their deepest condolences to the deceased’s family and the SAF is “assisting the family in their time of grief”, said the statement.

In May 2014, Yahoo News Singapore reported on the death of a serviceman at the same camp. The deceased was a senior course instructor from the SAF Medical Training Institute and was believed to have hung himself.
