Samsung has near enough mastered the foldable phone, so much so that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, despite being very similar to its predecessor, achieved a near-perfect score in our Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 review. It's likely, then, that the next model in the series, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, will also be among the best foldable phones ever made.

We're expecting Samsung to debut its next foldable model at Galaxy Unpacked 2024, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 10. If you're keen to tune into the event itself, check out our guide on how to watch Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024. We'll also be running a dedicated live blog when things kick off.

While that Unpacked date has now been set, there's still a lot we don't know the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. Nevertheless, we've collated all of the leaks and rumors that we have come across so far in this handy guide, so read on for the latest information. We'll also be updating this page as we learn more.

Cut to the chase

  • What is it? The next flagship Samsung foldable

  • When is it out? Wednesday, July 10, 2024

  • How much will it cost? Will likely start at $1,799.99 / £1,749 / AU$2,599

It's overwhelmingly likely that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will launch at the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event. That showcase is now set for July 10, with an event taking place in Paris.

Before that date you can already reserve the next Galaxy Z devices, though Samsung doesn't explicitly say what they are. A preorder gets you instant Samsung Credit and the ability to save a good chunk of money on top.

One recent rumor suggests you'll be able to pick up a pair of Galaxy Buds 3 Pro for free when you order a new Galaxy Z Fold 6.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 price, one leak suggests it will cost $100 more than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, meaning a starting price in the US of $1,099.99, and in that case we're likely to see similar rises elsewhere.

For reference, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 starts at $1,799.99 / £1,749 / AU$2,599, so it’s likely that the Z Fold 6 will cost at least that much.

Having said all that though, there is a chance that the Z Fold 6 could get cheaper, as Samsung is reportedly considering using a cheaper method for creating the bezels on its foldable screen.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: models

Before we get into the various leaks about the standard Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, it's worth noting that several other models have also been rumored.

These include a high-end Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra, a more affordable Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE, and a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim, which might be bigger and thinner than the standard model, though could also be the Ultra by another name.

Below though, we're focusing on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 itself.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: design and display

Some design and screen tweaks are expected for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 but they aren't likely to be dramatic changes. Samsung has previously told us that the design team stuck with the relatively narrow form factor of its predecessors because they believed it offered the best "usability and grip and portability".

One of the best looks we've had at the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has actually been through a leak of the official Samsung cases. As these cases show the foldable phone inside them, we can see that the look of the handset hasn't changed all that much from the current model.

We've seen even more pictures courtesy of a leak from well-known tipster @evleaks which was then quickly followed by another less deliberate one from an Australian retailer site. Again, we can see the layout of the triple-lens rear camera on the back, and the slightly wider cover screen on the front.

We can see some color options here as well, with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is shown in a light gray or silver, a dark navy, and a light pink. The current model is available in Icy Blue, Phantom Black, Cream, Gray, and Blue.

Leaked Galaxy Z Fold 6 renders from @OnLeaks (a leaker with a great track record) show a similar design to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but with a slightly more boxy look. It's certainly not a drastic design change anyway. According to the tipster, the Z Fold 6 has dimensions of 153.5 x 132.5 x 6.1mm when unfolded, which would make it marginally shorter and wider than the Z Fold 5.

That might allow for the rumored different aspect ratio, but @OnLeaks claims the cover screen will once again be 6.2 inches, rather than it being bigger as was previously tipped. The thickness is also set to be the same, so don't count on a slimmer phone this year.

The same tipster claims that the main display is once again a 7.6-inch 120Hz one, albeit with a higher 2,600-nit peak brightness (and we've heard that rumored elsewhere too). Since then they've added that the Z Fold 6 could weigh slightly less than its predecessor though, at 239 grams.

We've heard similar claims elsewhere, with a massive Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 specs leak pointing to dimensions of 153.5 x 68.1 x 12.1mm when folded and 153.5 x 132.6 x 5.6mm when unfolded, a weight of 239g, and a 7.6-inch Dynamic 1,856 x 2,160 AMOLED 2X foldable screen with a 1-120Hz refresh rate. The same source also claims the cover display is a 6.3-inch 986 x 2,376 one, with a 120Hz refresh rate.

The cover screen might at least be more durable this year though, as it reportedly uses Corning Gorilla Armor, like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Elsewhere, we've heard that the Galaxy Z Fold 6's cover screen might incorporate anti-reflective tech.

What's more, we've also seen leaked Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 dummy unit photos, which largely match the renders above, but show a visible crease in the screen. Though whether this crease would be as big on the finished phone is unclear.

Beyond all that, Samsung itself has said it’s working on dust-proofing its foldable phones. So that's a feature that we think might make it to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, though the company hasn’t committed to that.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: colors

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 colors could include Navy, Silver Shadow, Light Pink, Crafted Black, and White, according to Ross Young, who additionally suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 6's Crafted Black and White shades might be exclusive to Samsung.com.

The exact same selection of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 colors has also now been leaked by Evan Blass, though Blass just mentions 'Pink' rather than 'Light Pink'. These match up with some of the leaked renders we've come across, and that you can check out above.

For reference, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 launched in Icy Blue, Phantom Black, and Cream last year, with Gray and Blue additionally available exclusively on Samsung's store.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: cameras and battery

According to the rumors, all the cameras on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be the same as those on the Z Fold 5. That's a claim we've now heard from multiple sources, where they say that the rear cameras, front camera, and under-display camera on the Z Fold 6 will all be the same as on the Z Fold 5.

For reference, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 50MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide, as well as a 10MP camera on the cover screen and a 4MP under-display camera on the foldable screen. So some or all of those might remain the same on the Z Fold 6.

However, another source has claimed that Samsung is considering using the same camera for the Z Fold 6 as for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. They don't say which of the S24 UItra's cameras they mean, but they're likely talking about the 200MP sensor. Elsewhere we've also heard that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 could have an improved under-display camera.

On the battery front, multiple sources point to a 4,600mAh battery (up from 4,400mAh in the Z Fold 5), though another source contradicts that, claiming that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will once again have a 4,400mAh battery and 25W charging. Even if the battery capacity is the same, the battery life might be slightly better.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: specs and features

As far the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 specs go, we've heard from multiple sources that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 will have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This is no surprise though, as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is also used by the Galaxy S24 line, and it's the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset used by the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.

There was some early talk that an Exynos chipset might be used in some regions, but that's looking very unlikely, with The Elec specifically saying that Snapdragon will be used everywhere.

That Snapdragon chipset would make it extremely powerful though, and we'd expect it will be joined by at least 12GB of RAM, as that's how much the Z Fold 5 has. Indeed, an early Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 benchmark lists a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and Android 14.

A second Galaxy Z Fold 6 benchmark shows the same specs, and the phone achieves even better scores than the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra here. In general, there's consensus among many tipsters that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will offer 12GB of RAM and storage configurations of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB configurations.

On the software front, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 will probably support seamless Android updates, as Samsung now offers this feature in a recent phone. It may have some new AI features too, with one leak suggesting you'll be able to use AI to instantly transform doodles and rough sketches into polished images on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. This is a very similar idea to the Image Wand feature that's part of Apple Intelligence.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: outlook

Going by the rumors so far, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 looks set to be a minor update over its admittedly excellent predecessor. The biggest upgrades we see could be related to the processor running everything, and perhaps the software on board (especially when Android 15 arrives).

Samsung arguably has most of the foldable phone formula nailed, so doesn't need to choose revolution over evolution. But if it brings a suite of Galaxy AI features to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, including some new ones that can tap into the extra screen space a folding phone offers, the sixth Galaxy Fold could be more intriguing than its specs might suggest.
