Sarah Ferguson just came up with the greatest mash-up idea ever: the Duchess of York wants a role in the next season of Bridgerton. That's right—this royal officially wants to join the Ton.

"I want to be on Bridgerton," she confessed to Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid, before revealing that she had already thought up the perfect role for herself.

"I think Lady Penelope should have a friend who's got red hair like me," she said. "Let's get in touch with Shonda Rhimes. Don't you think? I'm putting it out there!"

"Yeah, next season!" replied Reid.

While the idea of a member of the royal family mixing and mingling with the Featheringtons may sound pretty absurd, this isn't the first time Ferguson has shown an interest in appearing in a television series. In fact, back in the '90s she actually made a cameo appearance in Friends.  In I'll Be There for You: The One About Friends, Kelsey Miller wrote that Fergie was actually "coaxed into the appearance by her daughters."

Ferguson also appeared in the Hallmark movie An American in Austen in 2022, playing "The Duchess" — so, actually, the idea of Ferguson making a small cameo in Bridgerton might not be quite as wild as it sounds.

Ferguson's appearance on Good Morning Britain comes amidst an health struggle for the royal. Last year, Sarah Ferguson shared the news that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and in January of this year, she revealed that she was also battling skin cancer. After Kate Middleton revealed her own cancer diagnosis, Ferguson took to Instagram to share a supportive message.

"All my thoughts and prayers are with the Princess of Wales as she starts her treatment," she wrote. "I know she will be surrounded by the love of her family, and everyone is praying for the best outcome. As someone who has faced their own battles with cancer in recent months, I am full of admiration for the way she has spoken publicly about her diagnosis and know it will do a tremendous amount of good to raise awareness I hope she will now be given the time, space and privacy to heal.”
