Sarah Hyland Shares Hopes for a “Modern Family” Reboot and Wanting to See Haley's 'Career Back' (Exclusive)

Hyland spoke to PEOPLE about her time on the sitcom at the 2024 Drama Desk Awards in New York City on June 10

Sarah Hyland is open to a Modern Family reboot!

The actress, 33, said she’d be interested in bringing back the sitcom to see what her character Haley Dunphey is doing next in her career while speaking to PEOPLE at the 2024 Drama Desk Awards on Monday, June 10.

“I would want to see a script first,” Hyland tells PEOPLE. “I think creatively for me, I would want to know what was going on with Haley. I want to see her career back and stuff and her creativity and I want her to be able to do both.”

Hyland played Haley Dunphy for all 11 seasons of Modern Family. By the end of the final season in 2020, her character was trying to balance her career with being a parent to newborn twins.

“[I want to see Haley] do what Claire [Dunphy] then set out to do and did as an amazing mother as well as businesswoman and CEO,” Hyland says of her beloved character. “And I would really love to see that creative side back for Haley. So yeah, I don't know.”

Her response to a possible reboot of the ABC comedy comes after her former costar Jesse Tyler Ferguson posted photos of the Dunphy’s family home on the Modern Family set on his Instagram Stories on May 23.

Speaking on the prospect of getting back on set with the cast, Hyland tells PEOPLE, “Yes. I love Modern Family so much. I love the cast with my entire heart and soul. I mean, Jesse and I are so close, and his husband Justin and my husband Wells, the four of us vacation together. I would love to be back with everybody.”

In November 2023, Hyland attended the “first” Modern Family cast reunion organized by her former costar, Sofía Vergara, at her home.

At the time, Vergara, 51, posted photos of the reunion on Instagram showing Hyland with the main cast, including Ferguson, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez, Ed O'Neill, Nolan Gould and more — with actor Ty Burrell unfortunately missing out on the gathering.
