Sarina Wiegman refuses to say if injured Keira Walsh could make World Cup return for England

England boss Sarina Wiegman is remaining tight-lipped as to whether Keira Walsh could play again at the Women’s World Cup.

The Barcelona midfielder injured her knee during Friday’s 1-0 win over Denmark and she will miss Tuesday’s final Group D game against China in Adelaide.

England confirmed over the weekend that Walsh had not suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, though her status for the remainder of the current tournament remains unclear.

Addressing the media again on Monday ahead of the clash with China at Hindmarsh Stadium, Lionesses head coach Wiegman would not confirm whether Walsh, who is still in Australia undergoing her recovery, might return should England reach the last 16 at the World Cup.

“We said that it is not an ACL,” Wiegman said. “I can’t give you any more information. We are focusing on the game tomorrow.

“We are just focusing on China. Let’s just keep it like that for now.”
