Saturday Night Takeaway fans have criticised a prank on the show, calling it 'shocking'.

During the show's highly anticipated return last night (February 25), it aired a fake baby scan prank on father-to-be Liam.

Enlisting the help of hosts Ant and Dec to exact revenge on her husband for constantly playing pranks on her, Liam's pregnant wife Amy treated her husband to a fake baby scan, antenatal class and photoshoot.

At the 4D ultrasound appointment, Liam was unaware that a fake video of a baby was playing which saw the foetus making rock star signs with its hands to the song 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen.

During the scan sequence, Liam was also tricked into thinking that his unborn baby was waving at him as well as playing hide and seek.

However, the prank in question didn't go down too well with some fans who thought that Liam had been robbed of a very special moment.

"I love Saturday Night Takeaway and usually love the pranks but I just don't think any prank involving pregnancy is ever funny. Far too much of a sensitive topic to so many people," said one viewer, while another added: "Shocked how many people found Saturday Night Takeaway funny. Pregnancy is not a joke. Having had infertility issues for many years, seeing such a precious moment being turned into a prank just wasn't funny."

"Is it just me or does this feel in really bad taste, messing with a father's first time experience like this?" shared a third.

Despite this, some viewers praised the show for opening up a savings account for the baby where they will deposit £1,000 a year until he turns 18.

"Wowzers Ant and Dec giving that baby 18k is amazing," one viewer tweeted, whist another said: "Already emotional at Ant and Dec giving baby Finlay that savings account, I'm going to be a wreck when the happiest moment of the week happens!"

"I think that was a brilliant segment and joyful and a lovely surprise at the end," wrote a third.

Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway airs on Saturday nights from 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
