Scarlett Johansson Weighs in on Dolly Parton Tattoo Sleeves Conspiracy Theory: 'Is it Real?' (Exclusive)

The 'Fly Me to the Moon' star said she is 'so not a conspiracy theorist'

Scarlett Johansson's latest film may revolve around space exploration, but the actress has something else she'd rather explore instead.

When asked what conspiracy theory she's intrigued by other than the moon landing, Johansson, 39, revealed that she would love to learn more about Dolly Parton's body art.

"I don't know. I'm so not a conspiracy theorist. I'm like, I really believe in science. I don't know. I think probably that Dolly Parton has full tattooed sleeves," she tells PEOPLE at the Monday, July 8 world premiere of Fly Me to the Moon held at New York's AMC Lincoln Square Theater.

After giving a sly smile, she playfully adds, "Is it real? We'll find out."

Johansson, who attended the event alongside her husband Colin Jost, knows a thing or two about conspiracy theories, as her latest project is inspired by the Apollo 11 moon landing and the belief that it was staged by the U.S. government.

In a September 2020 conversation with PEOPLE, Parton, 78, confirmed that she does have "some tattoos" and described them as "tasteful."

"My tattoos are pretty, they’re artful and they usually started out to cover some scar, not to make a big statement. Ribbons and bows and butterflies are the things that I have," she said.

The country music legend explained why they are her way of making something beautiful from an ugly experience.

"I was very sick for a while, and I had to wear a feeding tube. It left a little indention in my side and I didn't like it because I’m so fair that scars turn purple on me," Parton said. "I like to make positives out of negatives. I had a little beehive tattooed over it — a little yellow-and-brown beehive with a tiny little bee on top of the hive. The mouth of it is that little sinkhole."

Johansson's latest project finds her playing Kelly Jones, a member of the marketing team tasked with rehabilitating NASA’s public image. She stars alongside Channing Tatum, who plays launch director Cole Davis.

The actress, who is also a producer on the film, described her character in a previous conversation with PEOPLE as a "very modern woman living in a time where women were often underestimated."

"She uses that to her advantage and is always a few steps ahead," she said, adding that the overall film is "totally original."

"It’s not derivative of anything else, it doesn’t follow a formula," said Johansson. "I think audiences haven’t been offered a big-idea movie that is both funny and poignant and original in a long time, and they are hungry for that. The film is totally entertaining and fresh. I’m very proud of it for its newness and scope."

The movie star attended the premiere of the Greg Berlanti-directed project in a chic custom Prada top and skirt in faille vichy, with crystal embroidery trim and silver leather sandals.

Fly Me to the Moon hits theaters on July 12.
