New scheme aims to boost electricals recycling
A new scheme has been launched to increase the recycling of electrical items and batteries.
The Bring Bank project will see collection points opened in 10 council buildings across North Lincolnshire.
Items like toasters and kettles can also be left in kerbside recycling boxes or taken to a tip.
The initiative is being supported by not-for-profit organisation Material Focus.
The organisation said 39% of people bin electrical items, rather than recycling or reusing them, leading to more than 100,000 tonnes of electricals being thrown away every year.
Scott Butler from Material Focus said the scheme would make it easier for people to recycle their electrical goods.
"By investing in improved collection and drop-off services and exploring new recycling methods, we are taking a significant step towards creating a more sustainable future," he said.
Electrical items can contain 75% of materials that can be recycled, including gold, silver and copper, North Lincolnshire Council said.
Drop off points in Scunthorpe include, 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, Scunthorpe Museum, The Pods and The Baths Hall.
