The film’s starring cast includes Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Tess Harper (“Breaking Bad, “Tender Mercies,” “Crimes of the Heart”), Bruff (“Zodiac”), Lexi Simonsen (“S.W.A.T”), Alex Quijano (“The Fabelmans”), Myles Grier (“Lethal Weapon”), and Emmy winner Kim Estes (“The Resident,” “Dicks”). Root and Bruff previously collaborated on “Part Time Fabulous.”
The deal was negotiated by Carol Contes for the producers and Ben Yennie of Guerrilla Rep Media. Yennie, who was initially introduced to the film at the Albuquerque Film and Music Experience where it won best narrative feature and Root best director, will represent the film at the Berlin European Film Market.
Root said: “My filmmaking partner, Jules Bruff, and I have people close to us who live with schizophrenia. It was paramount for us to accurately portray this disease and its effect on a family.”
Yennie added: “Films such as ‘Good Side of Bad’ are vital for destigmatizing issues around mental health, which is the first step in broadening treatment options countrywide. Of course, if it weren’t a fantastic film, it wouldn’t reach the audience needed to achieve that goal. I’m so happy to be a part of this film and help it find the audience it deserves.”
