A middle school has been temporarily closed due to staffing issues.

Parents of children attending Danesfield Church of England Middle School in Williton, Taunton, were made aware of the closure in an email, seen by the BBC, on Monday evening.

In it, Beacon Education, which manages six academies, said the closure was due to staffing issues in "key management positions" but offered no further detail.

The school is expected to reopen on Monday 8 July, with school trips also postponed during the closure.

The email signed by Andy Giles, chair of trustees and Beacon Education interim CEO Trudy Danby, read: "Unforeseen circumstances have forced this reluctant decision due to the absence of staff in key management positions."

"All school trips planned for this week will, unfortunately, be postponed," it said.

"We have not taken this decision lightly and again our apologies for any inconvenience we know that this will cause," it added.
