Schools in St. John's metro region closed for the day as area under snowfall warning

Schools in the St. John's metro region are closed Tuesday due to messy weather conditions, with rain expected to change to snow near noon, according to Environment Canada.

Schools in the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District, as well as École Rocher-du-Nord, Lakecrest and St. Bonaventure's College, will be closed due to poor weather conditions.

Oak Trees and Acorns Centre daycares will also be closed for the day.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for St. John's and the surrounding area, with periods of heavy snow expected Tuesday afternoon that could affect road conditions.

The St. John's region is expected to see up to 15 centimetres of snow, with up to 20 centimetres in areas with higher terrain.

The northern Avalon Peninsula is also under a snowfall warning, with the peninsula's southeast, as well as the Bonavista Peninsula and Burgeo-Ramea areas under a wind warning.
