Scott Foley To Lead Netflix Rom-Com ‘La Dolce Villa’ From ‘Mean Girls’ Helmer Mark Waters

EXCLUSIVE: Scott Foley (Scandal) has signed on to star in La Dolce Villa, a new romantic comedy for Netflix. Others cast in the film, from director Mark Waters (Mean Girls), include Violante Placido (The American), Maia Reficco (Do Revenge) and Giuseppe Futia.

La Dolce Villa follows successful businessman Eric (Foley) as he travels to Italy to stop his daydreaming daughter Olivia (Reficco) from blowing her life savings on restoring a crumbling villa she purchased for €1. Italy, however, has different plans for him as it delivers on its legendary promise of beauty, magic, and romance.

Script was written by Elizabeth Hackett & Hilary Galanoy (A Perfect Pairing, Falling Inn Love). Pic’s producers are Robyn Snyder, Deborah Evans, and Nicola Rosada. Hackett & Galanoy are serving as executive producers.

Best known for roles on shows like Scandal, Scrubs, Whiskey Cavalier and The Big Leap, Foley will next be seen on the Max political drama series The Girls on the Bus. On the film side, he was most recently seen starring in The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, an adaptation of the New York Times bestselling novel by Gabrielle Zevin.

Placido is an Italian actress and singer best known stateside for roles in films like The American, starring George Clooney, and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

Previously appearing in the Netflix pic Do Revenge and Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, Reficco will soon be seen in the indies One Fast Move and A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow, among other projects.

In addition to the original Mean Girls, directing credits for Waters include Mr. Popper’s Penguins, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Just Like Heaven, and Freaky Friday, to name just a few. Most recently, he helmed the forthcoming Netflix rom-com Mother of the Bride starring Brooke Shields, Benjamin Bratt, Miranda Cosgrove and more.
