SEA Games: Singapore take bronze in rhythmic gymnastics mixed apparatus event

Malaysia’s rhythmic gymnastics team came out tops in the mixed apparatus (2 ropes, 3 balls) final in front of a sold-out arena at MITEC Hall 10 in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (28 August).

The Malaysian team recorded a score of 15.350 to take gold, with Vietnam taking silver (13.650) and Singapore taking bronze (11.450).

Speaking on behalf of the Singapore team, Phebe Lau said the team was happy just to get on the podium. “This medal to all of us is a very big deal,” she said after the victory ceremony. “We’ve been training very long and we actually stopped school since June to train for this SEA Games. Getting this medal means a lot to us. All our hard work has paid off.”

Malaysia’s rhythmic gymnasts also swept the individual apparatus events to claim the host nation’s 100th gold of the Games. The hosts have set a 111 gold medal target.
