Sealed with a Kiss! The Duke and Duchess of Westminster Make First Appearance as Newlyweds at U.K. Wedding of the Year

The Prince of Wales served as an usher for his friend at the wedding, also attended by Princess Eugenie

Introducing the newlyweds, the Duke and Duchess of Westminster!

On June 7, Hugh Grosvenor, 33, married Olivia Henson, 31, at the gothic Chester Cathedral in northern England. Despite the windy weather, the bride and groom were all smiles at their nuptials, which have been highly buzzed about as the British high-society wedding of the year.

The couple exited the church together, sharing a sweet kiss outside.

In a special touch showing her connection to her husband and his family, the bride topped her wedding day outfit with a tiara that was made for Grosvenor brides. The Faberge Myrtle Leaf Tiara has been in the Grosvenor family since its creation in 1906, and it was also the headpiece that Hugh's sister Lady Tamara wore at her 2004 nuptials.

The bride wore a wedding dress and veil by British bridal designer Emma Victoria Payne featuring hand-drawn embroidery that nodded to her great-great-grandmother’s veil from around 1880. The veil also incorporated another personal touch: Olivia's initials and the wedding date.

Olivia carried flowers picked from the gardens of Eaton Hall, the Grosvenor family’s estate. The bouquet included meadow grass, ox-eye daisies, iris, rose, clematis, mock orange, scabious, sweet pea, astrantia, martagon lily and love in a mist.

The Duke of Westminster is the richest person in the U.K. under 40 and was previously dubbed one of the most eligible bachelors in the U.K. He also has many connections to the British royal family, including being a godfather to Prince George, 10. Prince William served as an usher at the wedding, helping guests find their seats, while Princess Eugenie was also among the 400 guests.

Before the big day, it was unclear whether the Prince of Wales, 41, would bring his eldest son to the wedding. Prince George's absence may be due to a practical reason: it fell on a school day.

Prince William's wife, Kate Middleton, was also not in attendance as she continues to stay out of the public eye amid her cancer treatment. King Charles, who is also undergoing cancer treatment, was not expected to attend the wedding. The monarch, 75, is Hugh's godfather and was present at his christening in 1991.

Prince Harry, who, like his brother, is friends with Hugh, declined an invitation to the wedding. A source tells PEOPLE that it was an "understanding between the two friends." An insider close to the bride and groom tells PEOPLE that the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Westminster reached a mutual agreement.

Prince William and Prince Harry previously served as ushers for another wedding at Chester Cathedral when the Duke of Westminster's sister, Lady Tamara Grosvenor, married Edward van Cutsem, a godson to King Charles, in 2004.

Hugh's ties to the royal family trace back generations. He is a godson of the King and his mother is a godmother to Prince William. He is also one of Prince Archie’s godparents, connecting him to Harry and Meghan Markle's 5-year-old son.

The Duke of Westminster and the new Duchess of Westminster announced their engagement in April 2023 after two years of dating. Like many modern couples, they released a photo showing them together where he proposed — his family’s estate, Eaton Hall in Cheshire County — to celebrate the occasion.

"Members of both their families are absolutely delighted with the news," said a press release announcing the engagement.

Hugh inherited the title of Duke of Westminster and much of the family's wealth when his father, Gerald Grosvenor, died in 2016. At the time of his death, the late Duke was the third richest British citizen, with a net worth estimated at $12.15 billion, according to The Sunday Times' Rich List 2016. He also owned several acres of property near Buckingham Palace, in some of London's priciest neighborhoods. The Grosvenor family's net worth is estimated at $12.8 billion today.

Hugh now chairs the Grosvenor Trustees, the leadership team behind the long-term stewardship of the Grosvenor organization, an investment and real estate group that manages rural estates and supports charitable initiatives. He also heads the Westminster Foundation, which works closely with groups that support families and schools within their local communities and provides grants for youth outreach programs for at-risk children.

A month before the wedding, Hugh and Olivia visited their Chester Cathedral wedding venue to highlight some good causes the Westminster Foundation helps in the city.

In a relatable quip about jitters, the Duke of Westminster joked, "The next time we’ll be here will be slightly more nerve-wracking."

The newlywed couple reportedly met through friends, and the bride became the Duchess of Westminster when they tied the knot. Olivia attended Marlborough College (Princess Kate's alma mater!) and Trinity College Dublin before most recently working for Belazu, a gourmet food company known for its olive oils and artisan products.
