The royal family has reunited for this year’s Trooping the Colour.

Trooping the Colour is an annual celebration of the birthday of the reigning British monarch. While the event typically takes place in June, King Charles III’s birthday actually falls on November 14. (So, yes, he technically gets to celebrate twice a year!)

Besides the tradtional stately birthday festivities, today’s ceremony also marks a royal comeback for Catherine, Princess of Wales, who has not made an official public appearance since December. Kate has spent most of the year recovering from an abdominal surgery in January, and starting to receive chemotherapy for cancer the following month. (The king has also undergone treatment for his own cancer diagnosis this year, though he has since resumed his royal duties.) Kate’s appearance today does not yet mean she will return to work in a full-time capacity. As she wrote in a letter released by Kensington Palace on Friday: “I’m looking forward to attending the King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet. I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal.”
