Selangor royals lend helping hand to orphans, hard-core poor ahead of Hari Raya

Ramadan is a month of blessings, responsibilities, and relationships. With that spirit in mind, the Selangor royal household has been busy in recent days, giving back to the community during the fasting month.

On March 24, the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah, met 427 orphans and gave Aidilfitri contributions at Masjid Taman Putra Perdana in Sepang.

The orphans received a total of RM64,050 in ‘duit raya’ from the Yayasan Islam Darul Ehsan (YIDE).

A day earlier, Sultan Sharafuddin officiated the Masjid Al-Khalidiah Kampung Melayu Rasa, in Hulu Selangor. He was accompanied by his son, Tengku Amir.

The RM13 million mosque can accommodate up to 1,600 worshippers at one time.

At the same event, Sultan Sharafuddin handed out Aidilfitri contributions worth RM218,500 to 437 recipients, which included the hard-core poor and the needy.

Tengku Amir, on March 23, also handed out Aidilfitri contributions of RM73,050 from YIDE to 487 orphans in Hulu Selangor.

On March 21, Sultan Sharafuddin visited the recently refurbished Masjid At-Tuqo in Kampung Sungai Sireh, Tanjong Karang. The 74-year-old mosque was built in 1950 and was last refurbished in 1978.

The Selangor ruler, joined by Tengku Amir, handed out RM233,000 to 466 individuals.

On March 18, Sultan Sharafuddin also visited another mosque – Masjid An-Nur in Sungai Haji Dorani, Sabak Bernam. The 76-year-old mosque was refurbished last month. There, he handed out Raya contributions, totalling RM229,500, to 458 recipients.
