Sensex falls to lowest in over 1-1/2 years

MUMBAI (Reuters) - The BSE Sensex fell more than 2 percent on Thursday, hitting its lowest level in over one-and-a-half years after China accelerated the depreciation of the yuan, triggering a domino effect in global equity and currency markets. The BSE index ended 2.18 percent lower after earlier falling to its lowest level since June 5, 2014. The broader Nifty closed down 2.23 percent at its lowest close since Sept 7. Thailand's consumer protection agency has received about 70 complaints since initiating a probe into aggressive discounting by BYD dealers that has left some buyers feeling they overpaid for their Chinese electric vehicles. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin told BYD Chief Executive Wang Chuanfu, who was in Thailand to mark the opening of its first Southeast Asian factory this week and paid a courtesy call to the premier on Friday, to better manage customer expectations about pricing and ensure local buyers were protected.
