Seven must-see cars at the Singapore Motor Show

The doors are open at Suntec and it’s time for the cars to pick up where the hype leaves off..

SINGAPORE — The Singapore Motor Show 2015 runs from today to Sunday, and with the promise of 20 new cars for local car buyers to look forward to there is lots to keep the car enthusiast busy.

But if you’re making the trip to Suntec, here are seven car to point your camera at:

Audi TT

If German brands have a reputation for cutting-edge technology, cars like the Audi TT are why.

Making its Asian debut at the Singapore Motor Show, the new TT is packed with features for both motoring and tech geeks to drool about: its body made of aluminium to give it efficiency and strength, while the digital dashboard is straight out from the future.

Ford Mustang

50 years after it was born, the iconic Mustang is finally available in right-hand drive, which paves the way for it to go on sale here.

Though you’ll be able to see one at the motorshow, you’ll have to be content with just gawking. It’s not until the end of the year that you can place your order for the steroidal muscle car.

Honda Mobilio RS

Take a trusted Japanese nameplate and well-proven mechanicals (it’s based on the Honda Jazz), then add seven seats and Category A COE classification.

That’s the basic recipe for the Honda Mobilio RS, which is aimed at family buyers and the practical-minded. The 1.5-litre mini-MPV is being launched at the motor show at $121,999 with COE.

Hyundai Sonata

Korea’s attempt to win buyers is increasingly centred on bold design and a generous list of standard features, along with value-for-money pricing.

That’s the basic premise of the all-new Hyundai Sonata, which looks the part of an exec car but is priced at $138,999 with COE to make it a tempting proposition.

Lexus RC F

One of the fastest cars at the Motor Show is a Lexus. Specifically, this Lexus, the 5.0-litre V8 RC F. It’s yours for $438,000, COE and all.

Mind you, the RC F is not just a sexy 2+2 seater performance coupe, but an indicator that Japan’s leading luxury brand is starting to let its hair down.

MORE: Yep, we’ve tested the RC F. On the track, too!

Also on the Lexus stand: the LF-LC Concept, an aggressive design study that hinted way back in 2012 at Lexus’ current resurgence.

Mazda 2

Sporty design is one of the main draws of the Mazda 2, but the real surprise its in interior, which is much plusher than you’d expect from a small urban runabout.

The display unit at Suntec has white leather upholstery, which helps to give this 1.5-litre hatch a dose of flair that is really starting to show in Japanese brands.

Volkswagen Scirocco 1.4 TSI

The Scirocco was given a mild facelift last year to keep it fresh, and it’s being launched at Suntec as a sports coupe with a twist: a new 122bhp, 1.4-litre engine lets it sneak back into the Category A segment, with a base price of $138,999 with COE.

Will that help it to regain some sales momentum? The Scirocco was Singapore’s best-selling coupe in 2009 and remained popular until the recent financing curbs kicked in and a COE reclassification placed it in Category B.

But with Category A COEs becoming significantly more plentiful from February onwards, its launch at the Motor Show could well be perfect timing for an old favourite with a new engine.
