  • Apple TV+ just released a first look at "Severance" season 2.

  • Star Britt Lower recently told Business Insider what to expect from the new season.

  • Lower is starring in two films premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival.

"Severance" season two is on the horizon, and the scope of the sci-fi thriller's world is widening, according to one star.

The Apple TV+ series, led by "Parks & Recreation" alum Adam Scott, centers on people working at a mysterious company, Lumon Industries, which uses a voluntary medical process to "sever" some of its employees' memories, effectively splitting each one into "Innies," who are only conscious when they're at work, and "Outies," who only experience their home life and have no awareness of what's happening within the Lumon offices. Scott plays Mark S., a Lumon worker who becomes suspicious of the company and begins to uncover what's really going on there.

The first season, filled with twists and turns and a finale packed with more than one shocking reveal, aired over two years ago, leaving fans eager to find out what would happen next. Though season two kicked off production in October 2022, it was waylaid due to the writers' and actors' strikes of 2023 and reported creative differences behind the scenes.

Business Insider spoke to Britt Lower, who plays Helly R. on the show, in an interview about her new film "The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write about a Serial Killer," which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday. During the conversation, we touched on "Severance," and though Lower kept mum on the details, she did give us some insight into what to expect.

"Expansive," Lower told BI when asked to describe season two in one word.

While the actor couldn't divulge any details about the plot, she did confirm that the season, which wrapped filming in April, is now in the editing stages.

"So it's coming," teased Lower, who's been keeping busy in the off-season. (She's fantastic in "Shallow Tale" opposite Steve Buscemi and John Magaro, and is also leading another Tribeca premiere, "Darkest Miriam.")

Sure enough, on Monday, Apple TV+ released a first look at the critically acclaimed sci-fi series' highly anticipated return.

"Your innie has already seen this image," the streamer captioned a photo showing Scott's Mark S. holding a bunch of blue balloons, which appear to have Mark's face on them.

In addition to the promotional image, Apple TV+'s slate teaser featured snippets of footage from the upcoming season, including one that's seemingly from the same balloon moment.

In the clip featured in the opening seconds of the streamer's slate teaser, Mark emerges from the elevator taking him down to the severed floor of the Lumon office. He puts on his nametag and appears to be greeted by Seth Milchick (Tramell Tillman), the company-man supervisor of the severed floor at Lumon.

"Welcome back," says Milchick, who's holding the blue balloons. "Been a minute."

Then, at the 45-second mark of the video, we see Mark having a trippy moment in which he cycles between wearing his casual Outie clothing and his Innie work attire while lying on a conference table, then running down a hallway.

Apple TV+ hasn't yet confirmed a release date, but hopefully "Severance" season two is coming soon.
