SG50 Funpack designs unveiled

The Funpack designs and its contents for this year’s SG50 National Day Parade (NDP) were unveiled Wednesday (3 June) by the NDP 2015 Executive Committee.

This year’s Funpack comes in a simple red and white tote bag, with designs printed on the front of the bag. There are 50 designs in total, each created by Singaporeans from all walks of life, including the composer of this year’s NDP song, Dick Lee, and Gold 90.5 radio presenter Vernetta Lopez.

To commemorate Singapore’s Golden Jubilee, the Funpacks will contain items reminiscent of the country's early years, such as the capteh and snacks like haw flakes, as well as a collectible Singa Lion figurine. The nostalgic items will be included as a combination, with two games, and two snacks in each bag.

There are 15 different designs of the Singa Lion figurines, which can be purchased individually or in a full set at The Kindness Gallery from July onwards.

Colonnel Frederick Choo, the Chairman of Engagement, Celebrations and Mobile Column of the NDP committee, said “many Singaporeans look forward to receiving Funpack at the parade” so they wanted the Funpack to “feature memories that connect Singaporeans across generations.”

He added that the nostalgic items were included because they wanted to include “not just contents but also memories”.

Every Singaporean and Permanent Resident household in Singapore will receive one SG Funpack. There are 1.2 million SG Funpacks in total, and the committee will work with the People’s Association to distribute them to households from July. The instructions to collect them will be released through mail.

Spectators at the Padang and Floating Platform will receive the NDP Funpack, which is similar to the SG Funpack, except that this will include perishables like food and drinks, as well as interactive items required for the parade.

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen, also shared details of the Funpack on his Facebook page on 3 June.

“The funpack represents what Singapore means to all of us. So, we have 50 different designs of Singapore icons and many items that are uniquely Singapore,” he wrote.

NDP engagement initiatives

Various engagement initiatives for the Jubilee NDP will also be carried out, in the time leading up to the nation’s birthday on 9 August.

The NDP Engagement Committee aims to engage Singaporeans from all ages in the celebration of the city-state’s birthday with specific segments and activities.

“A Funpack from Me to You” project is one such initiative that allows Singaporeans to pack a Funpack for a fellow Singaporean. Members from voluntary welfare organisations participated in the project, and a message card from the packer will be added into the Funpack. Recipients can also reciprocate by replying to the message and send it to the packer through the respective organisations.

Another project by the committee is the “Birthday Wish for Singapore” postcards. Postcards were distributed in partnership with the Ministry of Education to all primary 5 students in Singapore. The cards that have been filled up and collected will be used by the students from the National University of Singapore to build a giant birthday cake float structure that will be displayed at the Marina Bay area during the Jubilee weekend.

Members of the public can also visit the NDP 2015 Exhibition, which will be held at Marina Square from the 5th to the 14th of June. The exhibition is an interactive experience, where visitors can collect a “Progress Card” where they can use to visit the booths set up and collect rubber stamps. The rubber stamps can be used to redeem exclusive NDP 2015 commemorative items, as well as enter a lucky draw to win NDP tickets.
