What We Do in the Shadows to end with season 6

What We Do in the Shadows is officially coming to an end with its upcoming sixth season.

The supernatural mockumentary show is a spin-off from the 2014 film written and directed by Taika Waititi and Flight of the Conchords' Jermaine Clement, moving the action from New Zealand to Staten Island and following a different set of characters (with cameos from the film and a host of other famous faces).

Vulture first reported that the series would be ending following season 6, which was commissioned at the same time as season 5.

That fifth season dealt with what would happen if Guillermo, the vampire's familiar who was secretly a descendent of legendary vampire hunter Van Helsing, became a vampire himself. Well, he became a part vampire and gave birth to some very strange offspring, but became a normal human again by the end of it.

Meanwhile, Derek — the man who turned Guillermo into a vampire — has been turned into a zombie.

The show's co-executive producer Yana Gorskaya teased how the events of season 5 will affect Guillermo and Nandor's relationship going forward.

"Well, you'll find out when we get to season 6, but I mean, Paul Simms and the writers are so good at taking it where you maybe don't expect it to go," Gorskaya said.

"And I think with these will-they-or-won't-they type relationships, oftentimes you don't actually want the thing you think you want, and it may be more interesting to take it in other directions, but I'm not going to spoil any of that because that's where we're going."

The show usually airs in the spring or summer in the US, and around Halloween in the UK, but season 6 may be affected by the strikes in Hollywood from this year.
