Sheridan Smith is trapped on a mysterious island in the first look at The Castaways for Paramount+.

The Gavin & Stacey actress is paired up with Showtrial's Céline Buckens as sisters, Lori and Erin Holme, whose resort holiday takes a terrifying and possibly deadly turn.

After Lori (Smith) boards an island-hopping flight on a holiday to Fiji, her sister Erin (Buckens) is horrified to discover the plane nor her sibling ever arrived at their destination.

Several months later, someone makes a charge on Lori's credit card and the pilot is even spotted on CCTV, leading Erin to return to the scene of her sister's disappearance to search for any trace of Lori.

The series shifts between the perspectives of both Holme siblings as frightening secrets are unearthed about the island where Lori may be trapped.

The Castaways has been adapted for TV from the Sunday Times bestselling novel of the same name by author Lucy Clarke. This series follows the adaptation of Clarke's novel No Escape by the streamer.

"I'm so excited to be working with Céline Buckens and to be part of this amazing production bringing Lucy Clarke's best-selling novel to life," Smith said today (October 5).

Céline Buckens has said of joining The Castaways: "I'm really thrilled to bring Erin to life — she's a firecracker and the scripts bring layers and darkness to such an arresting premise. I hope audiences will be as hooked watching it as I was reading it."
