Sheryl Lee Ralph Signs With CAA (EXCLUSIVE)

Sheryl Lee Ralph has signed with CAA for representation.

An Emmy, Critics Choice and Independent Spirit Award winner, Ralph is currently seen starring in ABC’s hit comedy series “Abbott Elementary” opposite Quinta Brunson. In 2022, she won the Emmy for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series, becoming the first black woman in 35 years to take home the trophy.

In 2023, she was nominated for her second Emmy Award, a Golden Globe and a Film Independent Spirit Award for her portrayal of straight-laced kindergarten teacher Barbara Howard, winning the Critics Choice Award for best supporting actor in a comedy series.

Ralph made her feature film debut at 20 years old, opposite Academy Award winner Sidney Poitier in “A Piece of the Action.” She has also appeared in “The Mighty Quinn” opposite Denzel Washington, “Mistress” with Robert De Niro, “The Distinguished Gentleman” with Eddie Murphy, “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” opposite Whoopi Goldberg and “To Sleep With Anger,” for which she won an Independent Spirit Award for best supporting actress.

On stage, Ralph is known for her award-winning work as an actress and producer, originating the role of Deena Jones in the legendary Broadway musical “Dreamgirls,” which earned her best actress nods for Tony and Drama Desk Awards.

Ralph’s other stage credits include “Wicked” and “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” She most recently produced the Tony and Drama Desk Award-nominated “Ohio State Murders” starring Audra McDonald.

On the big screen, she will next be seen starring in Jocelyn Moorhouse’s “The Fabulous Four” opposite Bette Midler, Susan Sarandon and Megan Mullally. Ralph also stars in Tayarisha Poe’s “The Young Wife,” which premiered at SXSW in 2023.

Off screen, Ralph is a passionate health advocate and honored AIDS activist. In 1990, she founded The DIVA Foundation as a memorial and life-long pledge to the many friends she had lost to HIV/AIDS.
Ralph recently produced the documentary short “Unexpected,” which follows two activists as they create an underground network to help and support women with HIV in the rural South. The short, which was released on Hulu, was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for outstanding daytime special.

The foundation’s signature fundraising event, DIVAS Simply Singing! Raising Health Awareness, is an annual benefit concert that raises awareness and funds and has a 33-year history, making it the longest-running consecutive HIV/AIDS and Health Awareness benefit concert in the United States.
