Signalling problems on a busy railway line have temporarily stopped some services through a Southampton Central Station, leaving long queues.

Services have been heavily affected by problems between Brockenhurst and Eastleigh.

The issues on the South Western Railway (SWR) line are expected to last until the end of the day, the train company said.

Passengers are being told not to travel between Weymouth, Southampton, Eastleigh and Fareham until further notice.

Janice Whittington, who is trying to travel back to her home in Manchester after a cruise holiday, called the disruptions "terrible".

"We're stuck in Southampton and we've got to get to Manchester, and we're both in work tomorrow - so I'm not happy," she added.

Other passengers told the BBC that they would be paying for taxis and ubers to get to Eastleigh station, where they hoped to catch onward trains.

SWR said all eligible tickets could be used on Bluestar and Uni-Link buses in Southampton.

It added that tickets that were not used on Sunday could be carried over to Monday.
