Sika Anoa'i, WWE Hall of Famer and father of wrestling star Roman Reigns, dies at 79

Sika wrestled as half of the duo known as the Wild Samoans in the '80s.

Sika Anoa'i, the WWE Hall of Famer and father of fellow pro wrestling star Roman Reigns, died Tuesday at 79.

His nephew Jahrus Anoa'i announced the news on social media, writing that Sika, as he was known in the ring, "passed away peacefully."

"He was many things: a hard working father, a caring brother, a supportive uncle, and a proud grandfather," the statement continued. "He was a cherished friend to many, a loving family member whose warmth and kindness knew no bounds, and an inspiration to countless individuals. His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift future generations, reminding us of the impact one person's life can have on so many."

The WWE quickly followed with a tribute, saying the company was "saddened to learn" of the death and lauding Sika, who fought alongside his brother Afa as the duo the Wild Samoans.

"The duo's fearsome presence and unhinged style made them massive stars for WWE in the late '70s and early '80s as they dominated the tag team division, winning the championship on three separate occasions," the WWE said. "Following his remarkable career, Sika opened The Wild Samoan Training Facility alongside Afa where the duo trained future generations of WWE Superstars, including Batista. Sika's legacy also carried on in WWE through his sons, Rosey and Roman Reigns, as well as the rest of his legendary family."

Sika retired in 1988 but continued to influence wrestling, and he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.
