Simon Cowell is worried no one will audition for his new talent show.

The 54-year-old entertainment mogul is currently looking for the next One Direction, 14 years after he formed the boy band on ‘The X Factor’, for his as-of-yet untitled series.

Simon's experience of creating pop bands is pre social media and he has concerns that aspiring young singers won't leave their bedrooms to show off their talents.

During an interview with HELLO! magazine, he said: "[It’s] one of the scariest things I’ve ever done because I have no safety net.

“I used to do this 25 years ago, before social media, so now everyone is just in their bedrooms.

“Are they going to turn up to audition? I hope so!”

The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge is confident that there is still an audience for a great boy band in today's charts, despite the industry currently being dominated by solo female artists such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo.

When asked if he believed there was still a hunger for a group like 1D, he said: “Yes, a hundred per cent.

“I’ve always believed everything is cynical. If One Direction formed tomorrow and put their first single out now, I honestly think it would be more successful.”

Simon is still in contact with some of the group, including Harry Styles, who called him after hearing his appearance on Steven Bartlett’s podcast ‘The Diary of a CEO’.

Simon spilled: “It was great to hear from him.

“He said listening to the podcast reminded him of what a great time we had together. I thought it said so much about him that he would even bother to make that phone call.”
