This Singapore Candy Crush photo series shows you how popular the game is

If there’s one game that was (still is) popular before the whole Flappy Bird Saga, it would be Candy Crush.

Candy Crush Saga is the most popular game on Facebook, with 46 million average monthly users. It is a variation of match-three games such as Bejeweled. Each level has a game board filled with differently coloured candies, and might contain obstacles.

When you walk on the streets, or when take the public transport, you are bound to see someone crushing their candies on their smartphone. This caught the attention of 28-year-old Singapore-based photographer Zinkie Aw.

Candy Crush Saga, the game, feels like a big National Pastime to me. Everywhere I go, I see people with those candy screens, or hear the game tunes. I wanted to capture these snippets, talk to these people from all ages, understand their craze with the crushing, and also show bits and pieces of my country, Singapore,” Zinkie wrote on her personal blog.

She then went on to take shoots of Singaporeans playing Candy Crush, and as our friends from Coconuts Singapore mentioned, the photo series, like its focus, is unendingly cheerful — typical of Zinkie Aw — but what stands out is how the trend-based photographer has captured the daily habits of Singaporeans, such as being pre-occupied while on the toilet and sending the kids to swimming class, via the over-the-shoulder POV.

Here are some of the shots of the photo series “Meet the Candi-dates”, all photo credits are Zinkie’s and is taken from her personal blog:
