Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, but sadly, one well-known couple won’t be celebrating it. Local celebrities Chen Yixin - daughter of veteran actors Edmund Chen and Xiang Yun - and Gavin Teo have called it quits.

In an Instagram post published late in the night on Tuesday (6 Feb), Chen, 23, announced that they have gone their separate ways. She wrote, “This is a post I'd never thought I'd be making. After much reflection and deep respect for each other, Gavin and I have made the difficult decision to journey on different paths.

“Sharing this wasn't easy, especially knowing that there were expectations about the future of our relationship once it became public. But I want this to be a safe space for us and I believe it's important for me to be open and honest about this new journey with you all.”

Chen then thanked the public for their love and support over the last five years, and hoped that they’ll continue to support them “as individuals” in their “next chapter”.

Aside from going on “different paths”, the young actress didn’t elaborate on the reasons for the break up. Teo has not commented or posted about the break up on his Instagram page.

The couple is managed by the same agency (Artiste Co), and was last seen together in a video advertisement for a clothing brand, which was released on their Instagram week ago. They were also co-stars in 2021's adaptation of the popular Singapore novel The Teenage Textbook.

Went public in 2021

Chen and Teo disclosed their relationship and went Instagram official in March. In an 8days article in August 2021, it was revealed that the couple had been dating for two years prior to the announcement.

Teo shared that meeting Chen’s father was akin to a “final boss challenge”, and was surprised that the older Chen was “very nice” to him from the start. The actor was also frequently seen on family trips with Chen.

He said, "I feel like [her parents] really treat me like their own son and I appreciate that.”
