SINGAPORE — Singapore's national netball team finished third in the 14th edition of the Nations Cup, which concluded on Saturday (10 December) at the OCBC Arena.

They defeated Ireland 52-36 in the third-placing match, wearing down their opponents after a close-fought first half to surge ahead in the second. The hosts' solid defence proved to be key as they forced turnovers among the Irish team to secure victory.

“Everything came together very nicely today. There were some patches of errors, but we always managed to pull through and got stronger as the game progressed," said Singapore defender Sindhu Nair.

"I will say it's one of our best performances today because we put everything that we learnt over the past week together, and it was really nice to see everything working out well for us.

"In the past few games, we were working on several things including team coordination and passes. We have some young players, so it was also about exposing them to this level of play."

During the six-day tournament, Singapore had beaten Ireland, Malaysia and the Singapore A team, but lost to Fiji and Botswana to qualify for the third-placing match.

Botswana remained undefeated en route to their first Nations Cup title, beating Fiji 65-37 in the championship match. The African side were quicker, sharper and more accurate, landing 82 per cent of their shots compared to Fiji’s 79 per cent.

Malaysia finished in fifth place after a 47-40 win over the Singapore A team.
