Singapore Police investigate TP officer's TPE-Yishun high-speed chase of van
Police said the van driver did not comply to a check by the officer on the motorbike and sped off instead.
SINGAPORE — The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has launched an investigation into an incident involving a Traffic Police (TP) officer on a motorcycle in a high-speed pursuit of a white van on Tuesday (14 February) in Yishun.
Authorities told Yahoo News Singapore that on Tuesday at 12.25pm, a TP officer was patrolling along TPE and signalled for a van to stop at the road shoulder to conduct a check, but the driver refused and sped away.
"The van driver did not comply and sped off. The TP officer gave chase and eventually found the van abandoned at the carpark near Block 472B Yishun Street 42," the SPF said.
The police did not confirm if the driver had been caught.
Videos of incident go viral online
Multiple videos of the incident were captured by members of the public and posted online on the SG Road Vigilante's Facebook page that day.
The three viral videos have garnered over 128,000 views on Facebook since Tuesday.
In one of the viral videos, the Toyota Hiace van was seen weaving in and out of traffic with a TP officer on its tail seconds later on Yishun Avenue 8.
The white van appears to be travelling at a high speed, avoiding other cars, driving against traffic and beating a red light, and the chase appears to have ended in a carpark in other videos.
There were police cars and motorcycles at the scene of the abandoned white van, which appeared to have hit a pillar across three parking lots.
