Infinite Studios, Lucasfilm open headquarters in Singapore

The Singapore government has opened Infinite Studios, the first media hub development at Mediapolis yesterday. The event was graced by Singapore's Minister for Communications and Information, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim.

The $60 million development houses a suite of digital media services ranging from production, post-production to transmission - that supports large scale television, film and animation productions.

Located within Mediapolis@one-north, Infinite Studios also features Singapore's largest purpose-built soundstages that are equipped to support productions that require intricate set builds, multi-cam operations and the latest "green screen" technology for visual effects productions.

The 24,078-sqm development is also home to a range of international companies including Globecast Asia, Discovery Networks, the Japanese game-maker Namco Bandai, the global media company, Haymarket Media, and the international advertising agency M&C Saatchi.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Mike Wiluan, chief executive officer of anchor tenant, Infinite Frameworks revealed that the facility now has an occupancy rate of close to 77 per cent with its 17 tenants.

The media hub was launched by Ascendas and its joint-venture partner, Citramas Nusaterra.

Meanwhile, American film and television production giant Lucasfilm opened its regional headquarters in Singapore's Fusionopolis at One North today.

Present at the opening ceremony was its founder George Lucas, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Modelled after the large vehicle of the same name featured in the original Star Wars film, the Sandcrawler is a seven-storey building of 22,500 sq m. It features a100-seat theatre and state-of-the-art digital production facilities, retail space and a public garden. The new building will also be the regional headquarters for sports TV network ESPN Asia Pacific, and The Walt Disney Company (Southeast Asia) which owns Lucasfilm.
