Singer Asiahn Is Engaged to DJ Jay Shalé! 'Thankful That We Chose Each Other' (Exclusive)
"When I proposed to her, it was around the people she loved the most, so she made sure to do the same," Asiahn tells PEOPLE of her partner, DJ Jay Shalé

The Grammy-nominated musician and Karma's World star, 36, and Jay Shalé are headed to the altar after a double proposal.
Asiahn, who has penned songs for artists like Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Lopez, first asked Shalé to get married last November after a year of dating. Then, just last week, Jay popped the question during a second surprise proposal.

Asiahn and Jay Shalé are engaged."I had already proposed to her on my birthday, but she felt like we were only half fiancées because we’re both ladies and I didn’t have a ring," Asiahn tells PEOPLE. "I recently moved out of LA to Atlanta because my mom got really sick and I needed to be there quickly. So, I didn’t get to have a going-away party or anything. My chosen family minus a few people live in LA. So, Jay and my friend Fawn were like let’s do a re-going away party."
She continues: "Here I am thinking I’m inviting my friends to a re-going away party only to find out they all knew for weeks that this was a surprise proposal! I was so oblivious. Here I am buying food for my own proposal party. When I proposed to her, it was around the people she loved the most, so she made sure to do the same. It was beyond magical and my heart is full.”
For Shalé, who admits she is not the “best planner,” it was important for the couple’s second proposal to also be “very, very special.”
“I knew I wanted it to be back in L.A. with the people that were most important to her,” she says.

Asiahn and Jay Shalé are engaged.One of those important people was Leslyn, a friend of Asiahn’s, who made the Jan. 25 proposal even more memorable by creating the heart-shaped floral arrangements from scratch.
"I wanted Asiahn to know that she will always be handled with care and I was hoping she would be able to see the time and care I put into making sure that night was very special,” Shalé adds.
Another important detail was the timing of the proposal, which Shalé selected to represent the date of the couple’s first interaction: Oct. 24, 2022. The DJ “made sure to propose at exactly 10:24 p.m. on the dot,” Asiahn says.

The couple first connected on social media back in 2019.
“I had just released my second project Love Train 2 and she’s a DJ and loved my music,” Asiahn tells PEOPLE. “So, we supported each other from afar.”
“At the time, we both were like ‘screw love,’” she recalls. “We were in the streets after our last failed relationships, but the universe said, ‘Get y’all butts back in the house!’”

Asiahn and Jay Shalé's engagement rings.Shalé, who is currently the DJ for WNBA team Atlanta Dream, says her relationship with Asiahn felt right from the start.
“It’s going to sound a little cliché, but when you know, you know. And from the first few conversations and time we spent together, I knew she was very different in the best ways possible,” she tells PEOPLE.
“She’s brought fun, new sides out of my family that I’d never seen. She is an amazing friend to all of her friends, completely selfless,” she says, adding that “there are just so many things I can use to describe her yet there aren’t enough incredible things to describe her.”

Shalé adds that Asiahn “came into my life at a time where I didn’t think I’d be blessed enough to find the love that I felt I deserved” — and she “completely changed my mind.”
Adds Jay: “I am very thankful that we chose each other and I’m looking forward to what this next chapter brings us."
