Singer Jason Mraz says ex-wife helped him accept his bisexuality

Jason Mraz is openly and proudly bisexual — and he says he has his ex-wife to thank for it.

The Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, who came out in 2018 while married to Christina Carano, has been named among 2023’s Out100, a list that spotlights “the year’s most influential and pioneering LGBTQ+ figures.”

Though Mraz and Carano divorced in June 2023 after eight years of marriage, the “I’m Yours” crooner gives his former spouse credit for being supportive of him experimenting with his sexuality. He also says their divorce led him to have to learn who he really is on his own.

“You want to heal as many relationships of the past as possible and at the same time, step into this new acceptance and new identity or whatever I’m claiming, and that’s also hard,” the 46-year-old recently said to GLAAD. “So being on the Out100… It’s nice to be acknowledged.”

Prior to his marriage to Carano, Mraz was engaged to singer-songwriter Tristan Prettyman, though the couple vowed to wait until gay marriage was “legal and equal” before walking down the aisle. They broke off the engagement less than six months later.
