Have Sisters Miranda Derrick and Melanie Wilking Reconnected After the “Dancing for the Devil ”TikTok Doc?

Sisters Miranda Derrick and Melanie Wilking have provided an update on the status of their relationship in the wake of the release of Netflix documentary Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult.

The documentary, which started streaming on May 29, is focused on the management and content creation company 7M Films, run by Robert Shinn. Shinn is also the leader of the Shekinah Church.

Miranda joined 7M Films with her now-husband James Derrick in 2020 in Los Angeles, and the rift between Miranda and her family began in 2021. The family said in the documentary that they grew concerned after several attempts to reach Miranda went unanswered while she spent more and more time with 7M and the church. After contact was made with Miranda, her family began researching the Shekinah Church and found other family members of 7M performers who had similar concerns about the dancers being isolated from loved ones.

In Feb. 2022, the Wilkings released a public video alleging that Miranda was part of a "cult" that was controlling her interactions with them — allegations that Miranda denied, saying that her parents' disapproval of James was the source of their conflict.

In the documentary, Miranda and her family are confirmed to still see and speak to each other occasionally, but do not address 7M or the Shekinah Church. Still, Wilking expressed hesitation at including Miranda in her then-upcoming wedding to football player Austin Ekeler.

Wilking was ultimately married to Ekeler on May 25 in Las Vegas at the Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa, PEOPLE confirmed exclusively. Derrick was in attendance, Wilking revealed this week in a now-expired Instagram Stories post, as reported by Glamour.

“Thankfully, since going public in 2022, we have reunited with my sister, who even attended my wedding,” Wilking said in the expired Stories post. “We believe that one day my sister and the other victims will realize their love for their families and faith was exploited.”

Miranda was missing from a Instagram photo from May 26 that featured Wilking's family at her wedding to Ekeler. She did, however, post a solo shot on May 28 of herself dressed up in an off-the-shoulder black formal dress. She wrote in her Instagram caption, "Had such a great time at my sister’s wedding✨💍." The photo appears to be taken in the same location as Wilking's wedding photos at the Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa.

Wilking also posted another statement on her Instagram Stories on June 3, thanking everyone for their “ love and support of the documentary," according to Glamour.

“We've been going through this for over three years. It's just insane because so much has happened over the course of that time,” Wilking said. “Life keeps moving. And you don't want to be defined by your trauma or the terrible things that you've gone through.”

Her post continued, "It's like this weird balance of keeping the story alive, because we don't want people to just forget about it, and then move on with their lives. Like no, this is still very serious. And we don't want Robert to be able to do this to more people.”

Neither Wilking nor Miranda immediately responded to PEOPLE's requests for comment.
