Modern Family star Sofía Vergara has revealed the extreme lengths she went to in order to prepare for her new Netflix show Griselda.

Griselda sees Vergara take on the role of real-life Colombian drug trafficker Griselda Blanco Restrepo – with the actress looking unrecognisable as she uses prosthetics in order to transform into Blanco.

However Vergara has now revealed that her transformation process went beyond facial prosthetics – with the actress sustaining a back injury after moving her body in an unnatural position for an extended period of time.

"I was trying to change as much as I could without looking like I was in a Halloween costume," Vergara told Digital Spy and other media, adding: "I would wear a bra that was minimising me and holding my butt so that it wouldn't move like a Latin girl."

Explaining the painful toll this took on her body, she continued: "I put myself in a body position for six months that, the only time that I didn't go to work was because I got up in the morning and my back, I couldn't get up because I was at 50 doing this weird position walking and smoking.

"Now I think I have a problem with a disk from walking like that," she added, joking that the painful condition she'd been left with was "worth it".

"I'm not gonna be saying that in 10 years with an operation," Vergara continued. "But now I have to be very careful, I have to go to physical therapy every once in a while because if I forget about it, it comes back. It was fun. I had never done that. But it was difficult."

Premiering on January 25, the six-part series details Blanco's rise through the Miami underworld, eventually becoming known as the 'Cocaine Godmother' – with a trailer available to view here.
