Sony Sets 2026 Release Date for 'Street Fighter' Film

Sony and Legendary Pictures are co-developing and producing a live-action Street Fighter film with Capcom.

Originally, Legendary acquired the film and television rights for the gaming series in 2023. The film will not be the first of the franchise, which initially launched in 1987 when the game sold over 49 million units worldwide to become one of the most popular and highest-grossing video game franchises of all time. Spin-offs featuring characters like Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile and M. Bison were a big hit and has led to Capcom's development of other popular games like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.

Other adaptations included one that featured Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen and Raul Julia in 1994. In 2009, 20th Century Fox released Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li with Kristin Kreuk. The live-action film is slated to arrive on March 20, 2026 and is currently in the early stages of production. Stay tuned for more information.
