South Korea vs Bahrain LIVE! Asian Cup result, match stream and latest updates today

South Korea made a winning start to their Asian Cup campaign as two goals from Kang-in Lee of Paris Saint-Germain helped them to a 3-1 victory over Bahrain.

Bahrain started well but Jurgen Klinsmann’s South Korea gradually grew in the first half and took the lead on 38 minutes when Jae-sung Lee squared and In-beom Hwang checked back to curl the ball into the top-left corner. South Korea started the second half well but were caught napping and conceded a shock leveller when Abdullah Al Hashash tapped home from close range.

But just five minutes after Bahrain had equalised, Lee fired a powerful curling effort into the bottom-left corner which nicked the post on the way in. It was a stunning goal which restored South Korea’s lead immediately. Soon after, the 22-year-old received the ball on the left with no one near him for company. He checked back onto his left foot and passed the ball calmly into the corner to put South Korea top of Group E.

Well that's all from Standard Sport, after South Korea got their Asian Cup campaign off to winning ways against Bahrain with a 3-1 win, thanks to a double from Paris Saint-Germain's Kang-in Lee.

Catch you again soon.

Good start for South Korea

13:48 , Dom Smith

South Korea rightly see themselves as one of the favourites to win this tournament, and that was a good start from them.

Bahrain showed their technical ability, particularly in the first half, but the Koreans took control in the second half and were indebted to Paris Saint-Germain's Kang-in Lee for a magnificent individual performance, capping it off with two goals.

FT: South Korea 3-1 Bahrain

13:35 , Dom Smith

Full-time in Al Rayyan. Heung-min Son didn't have one of his better games but Kang-in Lee's double helps them to win their opener.

Bahrain began well but did fade, and eventually they were beaten 3-1 by Jurgen Klinsmann's South Korea.

South Korea 3-1 Bahrain

13:31 , Dom Smith

90+4' Son goes into the book for a dive in the box, and it's absolutely the right call.

Silly to go down so easily there, and it just sums up his day!

South Korea 3-1 Bahrain

13:27 , Dom Smith

90+1' Eight minutes added on here.

South Korea looking strong in the final moments.

South Korea 3-1 Bahrain

13:23 , Dom Smith

87' Kang-in Lee puts Son in, but the Spurs striker can only curl it wide.

Surprising that he didn't score!

South Korea 3-1 Bahrain

13:21 , Dom Smith

85' OUCH! Al Wali thuds an elbow into Heung-min Son's face, and initially there is a bit of concern for the Tottenham man.

But he is soon back up. Sore one.

South Korea 3-1 Bahrain

13:19 , Dom Smith

83' More substitutions here as Madan makes way for Ibrahim Al Wali.

For South Korea, it's Yong-woo Park and Jae-sung Lee who go off. On come Woo-yeong Jeong and Jin-Seop Park.

South Korea 3-1 Bahrain

13:15 , Dom Smith

79' Jae-sung Lee tries to bend the ball into the far corner on the left flank but doesn't get quite enough curl in it.

The move was started by Kang-in Lee, who has been excellent in this second half, scoring twice.

South Korea 3-1 Bahrain

13:11 , Dom Smith

72' Raft of substitutions in this match. Mohamed Adel is replaced by Mahdi Al Humaidan for Bahrain.

Hyun-seok Hong and Young-gwon Kim are on for South Korea, in place of Gue-sung Cho and Min-jae Kim.

13:06 , Dom Smith

69' That will surely do it for South Korea today, as they move 3-1 ahead.

Son regains possession and spreads to In-beom Hwang, who finds Kang-in Lee to cut back and tuck home.

A double for the PSG man today, and he's been excellent.

South Korea 2-1 Bahrain

13:02 , Dom Smith

67' Couple of subs for Bahrain who are replacing Atede and goalscorer Al Hashash with Jasim Khelaif and Abdulla Yusuf Helal.

South Korea 2-1 Bahrain

12:57 , Dom Smith

59' Sighter from Son, who smashes at the goalkeeper from close range.

Then Gue-sung Cho goes into the book, making it four yellows for South Korea and six in the match now.

12:53 , Dom Smith

South Korea back ahead in an instant.

Thunderous curling strike from PSG's Kang-in Lee, which may have nicked the post on the way in.

What a goal. Bahrain were level for no time.

12:48 , Dom Smith

51' Bahrain level!

Within six minutes of the second half, the underdogs are level as Madan's volley is saved but the ball comes back out for Abdullah Al Hashash, who tucks home!

South Korea 1-0 Bahrain

12:41 , Dom Smith

46' Back underway in the second half.

Substitution for Bahrain, who bring Sayed Baqer on for Amine Benaddi, who picked up an ankle injury while doing a sliding block in first-half injury time.

Quiet day at the office for Son

12:29 , Dom Smith

Heung-min Son is yet to impress his quality on this match, despite South Korea leading at the break through Hwang's cool finish.

Jurgen Klinsmann will be hoping the Spurs skipper can help his side to pull further clear of Bahrain on the scoreline in the second half.

HT: South Korea 1-0 Bahrain

12:24 , Dom Smith

The whistle blows and South Korea have a slender lead to take into the break — In-beom Hwang's tidy finish into the top-left corner after 38 minutes the only goal that separates the sides.

South Korea 1-0 Bahrain

12:19 , Dom Smith

45+3' First sighter of the game for Son, who curls from range but doesn't cause goalkeeper Lutfallah any trouble at all.

South Korea 1-0 Bahrain

12:16 , Dom Smith

45' That's something quite extraordinary!

On the ground and well beaten by a South Korea player, Moses Atede reaches out and tries to stop the ball with his hand.

So intentional that you couldn't help but laugh.

Six minutes of stoppage time here.

South Korea 1-0 Bahrain

12:15 , Dom Smith

44' South Korea have established themselves as the dominant side as this half as worn on.

Hwang's goal came right when they were starting to pile pressure on Bahrain.

12:10 , Dom Smith

It has taken 38 minutes but South Korea take the lead.

Jae-sung Lee reaches the by-line and cuts back into In-beom Hwang who curls beautifully into the top-left corner. What a lovely goal. South Korea ahead.

South Korea 0-0 Bahrain

12:07 , Dom Smith

37' Kang-in Lee cuts back onto his left foot on the right side and bends in a sumptuous cross.

It lands just ahead of Jae-sung Lee, who was steaming into the box to meet it but can over scrape over.

South Korea starting to tick now.

South Korea 0-0 Bahrain

12:04 , Dom Smith

34' And now a really good opportunity for Bahrain, who almost edge in front.

Abdullah Al Hashash's through-ball for Madan is inch-perfect, but the midfielder hammers narrowly over on his weaker left foot.

Let off for Jurgen Klinsmann's South Korea!

South Korea 0-0 Bahrain

12:02 , Dom Smith

South Korea could have taken the lead there.

Jae-sung Lee gets away down the left and pulls the ball across. A clever Son dummy allows it to reach strike partner Gue-sung Cho, but the ball is just behind the striker and, reaching behind him, he scrapes it over.

Then a booking for Bahrain's Madan for a studs-up tackle.

South Korea 0-0 Bahrain

11:59 , Dom Smith

28' Well that's another Korean into the book! This time it's Ki-je Lee who stops Madan breaking away for Bahrain.

Clearly a yellow card. No complaints.

South Korea 0-0 Bahrain

11:54 , Dom Smith

23' Yong-woo Park arrows the ball well over the bar from distance. A wasted chance.

Signs perhaps that South Korea are beginning to become just a little frustrated here.

South Korea 0-0 Bahrain

11:50 , Dom Smith

20' Bahrain seeing lots of possession here and causing South Korea a fair few problems early on.

They're not a nation typically of much pedigree but they have reached all of the last six editions of the Asian Cup. The four best third-place teams reach the second round this year. Bahrain will fancy their chances, judging by this impressive start.

South Korea 0-0 Bahrain

11:44 , Dom Smith

13' Min-jae Kim is now booked for stopping a Bahrain counter-attack, and that's now two defenders booked inside 13 minutes for South Korea.

An ill-disciplined start from them...

South Korea 0-0 Bahrain

11:41 , Dom Smith

10' Very poor challenge from Yong-woo Park whose studs follow through onto Ali Madan's chest.

Yellow card given but perhaps a little lucky it wasn't red there.

South Korea 0-0 Bahrain

11:37 , Dom Smith

7' Free-kick from a decent possession from the left for Bahrain.

Al Aswad crosses in and Marhood is totally unmarked but heads over.

He should have scored really!

South Korea 0-0 Bahrain

11:34 , Dom Smith

2' South Korea put the first corner of the game into the box and it causes some confusion to goalkeeper Ebrahim Lutfallah, who comes to punch but doesn't get there. Eventually it's cleared.

And we're off!

Almost time now...

Just under 10 minutes now until South Korea get their Asian Cup campaign under way against Bahrain

Importance of Son

11:13 , Dom Smith

South Korea manager Jurgen Klinsmann has just done an interview with German television in which he was talking about the importance of Heung-min Son to South Korea's chances in this tournament, and that cannot be overstated.

Son has 41 goals for his country and is their best creative force as well as goalscorer.

With the likes of Japan, Australia and Saudi Arabia also at this tournament, they will need the Tottenham captain on fire if they are to challenge for the title.

No Hee-chan Hwang

11:02 , Dom Smith

South Korea are without Wolves striker Hee-chan Hwang today, who misses out with injury.

Could be a big blow for Jurgen Klinsmann's side, who could have done with his firepower up front. He already has 10 Premier League goals this season, with only five players having struck more.

We should get confirmation of both sides' starting line-ups very shortly!

South Korea's form

10:09 , Dom Smith

South Korea head into this tournament on the back of superb form, in which they last lost in June and are on a six-match winning streak during which time they have not even conceded a goal.

That run has included victories over Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and China. Bahrain facing a tough task today...

09:59 , Dom Smith

Bahrain are managed by former Spain international Juan Antonio Pizzi, the man who managed Saudi Arabia at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Bahrain lost to Angola as they prepared for this tournament, extending their losing streak to three games.

09:47 , Dom Smith

The match will take place at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, which was not one of the stadia Qatar used to host the 2022 winter World Cup.

The 15,000-seater arena was opened in 1975 and has already hosted an Asian Cup match, with Group B sides Uzbekistan and Syria playing out a 0-0 draw there on Saturday. Let's hope that's no unlucky omen for another goalless game today...
