SINGAPORE — The highly anticipated movie sequel to Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba), the popular anime series, is being launched in Southeast Asian countries after its opening in Japan last month.

Aside from Taiwan and Thailand, where the movie has already opened, Southeast Asian audiences will be among the first outside Japan to watch Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train in cinemas from November to February 2021.

The movie covers the Mugen Train arc of the manga series on which the anime is based. The story follows a young man, Kamado Tanjiro, who joins an order of demon slayers after his family is killed by demons and his sister turns into a demon. Tanjiro and his companions battle demons on a train to protect the lives of 200 passengers aboard.

Mugen Train set a box office record in Japan for the fastest film to earn over 10 billion yen (S$130 million) in its first 10 days, beating the record previously held by Spirited Away.

Yahoo Lifestyle SEA obtained the release schedule from Odex, the distributor for Mugen Train for all Southeast Asian markets except Thailand.

Singapore will be the first among Odex’s markets to release the movie, which will open to the general public on 12 November exclusively at Golden Village cinemas. Advance sales of general release tickets began on 5 November.

The movie will be in Japanese audio with English and Chinese subtitles.

Tickets for Singapore fan sneak screenings on 7 and 8 November have already sold out. An Odex spokesperson told Yahoo Lifestyle SEA that nearly 4,000 fan screening tickets were sold.

Odex will release the NC16 uncut version of the film in Singapore – fans of Demon Slayer will know that the restricted rating is due to the violent action scenes in the series.
