Southern 100 Racing called off over heavy rain
Heavy rains meant evening racing in the 2024 Southern 100 had to be called off.
After an initial 30-minute delay while the conditions were assessed, organisers announced the cancellation of the evening’s schedule.
Four races had been due to take place on the 4.25-mile (6.8km) Billlown Circuit in the south of the island, including the meeting’s first sidecar contest.
In a statement, organisers said the "difficult decision" had been taken due to "a late very heavy downpour" and the "weather forecast for the next few hours".
The programme for the 2024 event has already been disrupted.
A red flag incident during the newcomers’ sighting lap on Monday exacerbated pressure on Noble’s Hospital, leading to the cancellation of the session.
While Tuesday’s racing saw Michael Dunlop and Rob Hodson take victory in the Senior and Lightweight races respectively, the former was curtailed by another red flag incident part-way through the race.
Racing at the event is due to continue on Thursday morning and organisers said a revised schedule would be issued "in due course".
